Eyeglasses vs. Contact Lenses: What Should I Wear?

Nowadays, people who have poor eyesight have this struggle. They ask themselves, “What should I wear? Eyeglasses or contact lenses?” And these are the questions we are going to tackle to help you choose the right eye wear for you. But first, what is GOC?

Gaspar Optical Clinic or GOC is an optometrist and sunglasses and eye wear store located at Kawit, Cavite in the Philippines. It has been in the industry for 20 years since it began in 2000. It was first started by Dra. Ma. Luisa F. Gaspar in Paranaque in 1995 and later on moved to Kawit, Cavite on February 20, 2000. Dra. Gaspar graduated from Centro Escolar University in Mendiola garnering a Degree in Doctor of Optometry in 1989. She passed the licensure board exam the year after.

Eyeglasses Pros

  • Eyeglasses can be removed easily if you don’t want to use it anymore.

  • Eyeglasses can be bifocals, trifocals or multifocal. Bifocals, trifocals and multifocal are eyeglasses with more than one optical power.

  • With eyeglasses, you can have your lenses changed.

  • Eyeglasses can help give your eyes protection from alienated objects.

  • You are not prone to eye infection if you wear eyeglasses.

Eyeglasses Cons

  • Eyeglasses are pricier than contact lenses because of the variety of lenses and frames to choose from.

  • Eyeglasses are heavy and might give you time to get used to it.

  • Eyeglasses are prone to fogging and moist, and need some constant cleaning.

  • Eyeglasses can be broken if you don’t take care of it enough.

  • Eyeglasses sometimes can make you look older than your age if you don’t choose the right frame for you.



Contact Lenses Pros

  • Contact lenses are aesthetically pleasing to use as you can choose which eye color you want.

  • Contact lenses are not heavy to use as it is made light to fit your eyes.

  • Contact lenses can be used by sports enthusiasts and cannot get in the way when you’re exercising and playing sports.

  • Contact lenses are good if you’re into fashion so it won’t clash with whatever you’re wearing.

  • Contact lenses won’t fog up compared to eyeglasses.

Contact Lenses Cons

  • Contact lenses are not easily put, removed and changed.

  • Wearing contact lenses can make your eyes prone to infection.

  • Contact lenses can be tore apart when using it without care.

  • You cannot sleep with your contact lenses on.

  • You cannot use contact lenses for a long period of time.

Eyeglasses, Contact Lenses or Both?


Whatever you choose between eyeglasses or contact lenses, both of these have their own advantages and disadvantages. At the end of the day, it’s up to you, your preferences, your lifestyle, and your doctor’s prescription that will help you answer this question.
